Here are some tips for helping students that have memory retrieval impairment.

  
  • Drill, drill, drill
  • Post rubric until project is completed
  • Use graphic organizer
  • Use semantic mapping
  • Use props
  • Use word banks
  • Extend time for test taking
  • Use open book/open notes for test taking and quizzes
  • Reduce the number of choices on tests and quizzes
  • Use webbing
  • Use mneumonics
  • Use a multisensory approach to teaching
  • Rephrase questions
  • Simplify language
  • Have students paraphrase directions, questions, etc.
  • Relate material to relevant information
  • Highlight important facts
  • Use skeleton notes and fill in using closure
