Cooperative Learning Strategies
Module Three

This module's activity is to practice what you learned during the first two modules. Research has shown the value of distributed practice on the retention of newly learned content and skills. The theory focuses on reviewing content and practicing skills on a periodic basis with the period between practices lengthening as time goes on. The benefits of periodic review and practice are key factors in helping students remember important content and skills for a long time.

Before you proceed with this lesson, please take time to reflect on your experience with last module's activity and email Jerry Peters at gpeters@twcny.rr.com with a brief description of the activity you did with your students, how it went, and any questions you need answered. You might want to attach an electronic copy of the activity to the email.

Your task for Module 3 is to use a Collaborative Pairs activity and also a Carousel activity. You are encouraged to use them in a different place in your lesson than the first use. In other words, if you used the activity for guided practice the first time, try to use it for a different part of the lesson such as the anticipatory set or closure.

For those of you who would like a little more to learn, check out the Resources link on this web site. There are numerous postings on the page now with links to some great sites. For starters, you might go to the ASCD Tutorials (listed under P) and see what they have to offer. The Cooperative Learning Network (under C) is a very rich site.

Please continue thinking about your final project and keep collecting work samples in case you want to use them
