Douglas Huntley, Superintendent
Massena Central School District
84 Nightengale Avenue
Massena, New York

Dear Superintendent Huntley:

As Coordinator of Educational Partnerships for the St. Lawrence-Lewis Counties' BOCES and Project Director for the six-county North Country Tech Prep Consortium, I am pleased to add my support to the "Learner Centered/Standards Focused Initiative."

Because planned integrations between staff development, SCANS, and new technology will help strengthen our schools to meet the challenges of this new millenium, I see the initiative as a perfect fit between what this Consortium and its working partnerships are trying to accomplish and your goals for the future.

I welcome the opportunity to offer guidance to professional educators seeking to integrate workplace skills and competencies into their performance-based units and activities which focus on Targeted Instructional Staff Development. Student-designed projects offer the potential to motivate students to learn through direct contact with their immediate surroundings. As you know, most of our efforts are supportive of authentic, performance-based, hands-on initiatives and this makes us well qualified to work with educators who are trying to make lessons authentic. contextual, and performance-based.

This office is in a perfect position to work directly with the teachers engaged in this project.
