I am writing in support of the Targeted Instructional Staff Development Grant for which Massena Central School will be the LEA.

The proposal will enhance regional efforts by this BOCES to train teachers in the process to design learner-centered classrooms that focus on the New York Standards and Assessments. The focus of this grant on classroom instruction is very timely. The Commissioner is eager to further increase student performance already impacted by coordination of curriculum with assessment and articulation between grade levels. Educational leaders know the additional increase in academic performance will result from enhanced instructional strategies. This grant will provide essential sources for linking research and best practices to daily instruction. In addition, this proposal will assist schools in the design of their Professional Growth Plan for the district and individual teachers. A representative from the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES on the planning council will help coordinate the grant efforts.
