models of effective teaching. These teachers have participated in hours of training and planning to create classrooms where all students can be successful. The model of learner-centered classrooms needs to expand to all District classrooms.
There is also a need to use time more wisely and efficiently. In fact,
the very strategies
which are proving to be the most effective require us to use longer blocks
of time and
to ensure more student engagement with their own learning. The learner-centered
classroom model can help us to do that.
The District pilot teams have been active in sharmg their models of learner-centered
strategies with teachers in the District. They have participated in activities
such as unit
design training, both aligning to standards and integrating learner-center
strategies and
technology. They have participated in District-wide efforts to align our
core curricula.
Most impressively, they have created a web page on the Massena District
web site
completely devoted to sharing their models of learner-centered classrooms.
We will support the Grant initiatives with release time for the teachers
involved in the
project. We will provide materials, technical assistance and whatever support
teachers
need to be successful.
