MASSENA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
STATEMENT OF SUPPORT
Massena District strongly supports the initiatives winch make up the Targeted
Instructional Staff Development Grant proposal. For the past two years,
Massena has
actively participated in the Grant initiatives. Our students, teachers
and administrators
have benefited greatly from this participation. Our involvement with the
Targeted
Grant initiatives has enabled our teachers to move to the mastery level
of teacher
performance. Mastery teachers, in turn, will help our students to he more
successful
in reaching higher levels of academic achievement.
For the past four years, Massena CSD has been engaged in District and building
level
planning aimed at implementing the NYS Standards. The first two years saw
building
improvement teams and a District team focusing on building capacity for
Standards
implementation. The last two years have been focused on collecting and
analyzing
student and District data. This data analysis has led the District on a
search for the
most effective teaching practices. The District's primary goal is to ensure
that all
students will increase academic achievement.
Massena sees great potential in the CDEP process for developing a system
which
ensures continued student success. The Massena CDFP plan is over fifty
percent
completed and has evolved from the past four years of District and building
planning.
The District CDEP team recently engaged in a two-day workshop with Mr.
Paul
Preuss. That workshop served as a springboard to complete the Massena CDEP
plan. during the coming school year.
The Massena Board of Education has become actively engaged in both theMassena's voluntary decision to engage in the CDLP process is an affirmation of the
CDEP planning process and setting high standards for theniselves. In August,
the BOE held a Goals' Setting Workshop, in which they brainstormed their
beliefs for and their support to doing whatever is needed to raise student
achievement in the district. They were successful in developing four major goals
which support academic success in Massena District. The strategies they will
use to meet these goals will strengthen their knowledge of the standards and
their awareness of the best teaching methods currently being practiced by
district teachers.
The CDEP process of gap analysis has indicated that Massexia still needs
to pursue
methods of involving more teachers in the kind of training that has been
provided in
the past. The District pilot teams working within the Target Grant have
