John Goodlad of the University of Washington has suggested the following desriptors of a productive partnership between universities and public schools:
1. University faculty spend quality time in the public school setting.The Professional Development model created between Massena Central School and
2. Public school teachers and university professors engage in team teaching activities in both settings.
3. Pre-service students work with public school teachers on issues that come directly from the partner school setting.
4. Creation of a "defined relationship" between public school teachers and university staff with implications for research in the school setting.
5. Schools and universities collaboratively plan, design and conduct courses and professional development at both sites.
6. All partners are viewed as equal in the development of programs for preservice teachers.
7. Networking of people with expertise in various content areas.
8. Networking of public school teachers and university faculty to facilitate the sharing of concerns and ideas.
9. Creation of a defined process for pre-service activities in the public schools.
10. Creation of new paradigms for staff development.
